Shannon's Bubbly Burlap Craft Party!

Today, Krysten and I packed up the car and headed over to Shannon's adorable house in Poquoson, VA. Once we arrived, we rearranged her furniture to accommodate ten of her friends that were joining us in making bubbly burlap wreaths!  Shannon served a delicious brunch complete with fresh fruits, vegetables, frittatas, pastries, and mimosas.

First, everyone picked out their fabric and/or ribbon and paint colors - THIS is the hardest part of the whole project!  We painted our letters, set them down to dry and grabbed a bite to eat while waiting for our paint to dry.  Then, we began to form our bubbly burlap wreath.  Everyone did a wonderful job with this part - the next hardest part.  Helen and Anna decided to wrap their wreaths with fabric and ribbon - CUTE!

After the wreaths are nice and full, it's time to apply the embellishments and attach the initial or "Hello."  Check out these cute wreaths!

Annie Sloan Yard Sale Find Makeover Party - Take 2!

Friday afternoon, a few of our friends came over with their yard sale finds, or an item or two from around their house that needed a little sprucing up, and we got to paintin.'

This time, I remembered to take a picture of the delicious food that Krysten prepared for us.  We feasted on marinated chicken and vegetable skewers, fresh fruit, and PICKLES!

After a brief introduction to using Annie Sloan paint, we  began to apply our first coat of paint.  Bitsy used Paris Gray on her small white bookcase - which is going to be re-purposed as a towel holder.  Patty used Emperor's Silk on her kitchen stools.  Michele used Paris Gray on the outside of her TV console and Florence on the inside, and Beth used Paris Gray on the outside of a pine chest and Arles on the inside.  This paint goes on like "Butta!"  A little dab will do ya....well, for at least a square foot of surface area.  It is very easy to apply and even easier to clean up - a little drop of dish soap and warm water cleans up the natural bristle brushes very nicely. The hardest part, and I'm sure these ladies will agree, is the waxing - you sure do work up a sweat when waxing.  Mr. Miyagi knew what he was talking about - wax on....wax off!

Check out these fabulous finished products:

Thank you Bitsy, Patty, Michele, Beth, and Brie for coming over and crafting with us.  Your finished products look completely different - in a great way!  Now that you have the makeover bug, i'll see ya at the yard sales, ReStore, and thrift stores - Come on over and paint anytime!

Ruffled Happiness!

Crafting with friends it the best and today we did just that! With a little apprehension, because they had never sewn before, our friends, Brie and Kristen, conquered the ruffled aprons!  After munching on chicken salad croissant sandwiches (yes, they're back!), homemade pickles, chips, dip, and gluten free brownies made with coconut oil, we got down to business.  First, the girls picked out their fabric strips (4-5 did the trick).

Then it was time to fold over, iron, and sew to finish the edges of each fabric strip.

Then came the hard part - ruffling the fabric.  After a few trials and errors (only one broken needle - which is NOT BAD AT ALL - better than my first attempt), the girls were on their way to ruffled happiness!

Check out these beauties:

Brie and Kristen, thank you so much for spending your Saturday crafting with us!  Your final products are colorful and fun - just like you!  Until next time, happy crafting!
