Kitchen Facelift

On Friday, I was painting the round table that I picked up off of Trash and Treasure...

and I went in to wash my brush out and something crazy happened!  The paint brush flew out of my hand and started painting the kitchen cabinets - ALL BY ITSELF!  Well, that's at least what I told my husband :)

My kitchen doesn't receive much light because it is on the back side of my house, so why not paint my cabinets a light color to brighten up the room.  I'll admit it, I was actually scared of this project, so by just slapping on the paint on a whim, I was forced to complete it!

Everything was going fine until this happened...

The paint was cracking right above the hood vent!  This couldn't be happening!  Why was this happening?  Well, when I went back to Sister's Unique to reload on Old White and pick up some more colors (English Yellow and Emilie), I asked "Joy," one of the Sisters.  She explained that in "high traffic areas" the paint doesn't adhere very well, even if the piece was washed prior to painting.  Easy fix - Shellac it!  After a quick shellacing, I was back on track.  I worked on the cabinets during nap time on Saturday and Sunday, and then after the kids went to bed last night.  I probably put in a total of 6-7 hours of work, and only used one quart of Annie Sloan paint  ($36).  Quick and easy face lift!

The only other issue I ran into was when I was shaking my paint and the top flew off and landed all over my clothes and the floor - I guess I didn't hammer the top on well enough - Oh well!

One day, soon, my paintbrush might take over and conquer my lower cabinets :)  Stay tuned!
